Yesterday was a really neat-o day. This is Autumn Trails Month here in Winnsboro. What does all that mean? One weekend there will be a trailride and a cookout at the city park and rodeo grounds. One week is all the small stores slash prices and have antique shows etc...Well,this weekend was the tractor pull and tractor show weekend, and I decided to join about 8-10 others in setting up the auditorium for the BBQ.It's all volunteer work and a few community service people angrily came to help, but didn't stay long at all.We sat up 7 rowes of long tables,I guess about 40 + long tables and 8 chairs per table. Then the soda's and water were brought in for us to ice down in several vats and coolers, then the plates/forks/and all the food came, and I chose to serve the drinks. So I missed the tractor pull(bummer) but the funny thing is....leave it to me to throw something DIFFERENT in an age old tradition.lol...I figure,"hey!I'm working my buns off for free...no biggy" ..."but what's wrong with making a tip jar"? So I asked the guy that puts together the BBQ shin-dig together for about 8 years,if I could do that....and he hesitated and said...(he's REAL COUNTRY) w/ that slooooow southern drawl. He says "Welllll.young lady, that's never been done.....hmmmm....OKAY....I reckon that'll be alright" So off I go to my car and found an empty reuseable big Subway cup.Wrappeed a piece of paper around it and wrote:ALL TIPS or DONATIONS TO THE SERVERS WILL PROUDLY BE ACCEPTED
THANKS and ENJOYWell, all the servers burned off when they got tired of helping and left it all up to the elderly women. So I stayed to help a while longer,so I was the only somebody that got the tips.Nobody took it serious anyways,so I left there with $15....of course that's not much compared to all the ppl that showed, but it was a nice jesture after the people having to pay for the BBQ and all,b/c I really wasn't expecting ANY tips.My intentions were to just go help. Not expecting any money....but I thought it was really nice of the ones that did.I love little elderly people. They are so funny. So I decided to go,because I had to take care of some business, and left them w/ my phone # in case they needed me to put up all the tables and chairs....and sure enough...
*RING*~Hello?*LADY*aren't you the sweet young girl that served the drinks?
*ME*(after hearing the sweet young lady part) I'm like:"Yes Ma'am".
*LADY*Does the offer still stand for the picking up of the tables etc..?
*ME*(dragging my wore out body off the bed) I said "SURE I'll be there a.s.a.p."
*LADY*OOOOOO thank you sooooo much honey.
In my mind I was thinking"out of ALL those cowboys they had to call ME to do this?"
Oh well. All in all,it was a good feeling to do something, not really expecting anything in return.

Sounds like it was a great day but sorry you had to miss the tractor pull. I bet that lady really appreciated you coming back to help with the tables.
Great idea about the tip jar. It let people show their appreciation for you volunteering your time.
Take care and enjoy your Sunday.
BOBBIE*Thanks for the props on the tip jar idea. For a minute I thought maybe it sounded too silly to put one up.But good grief,we busted our buns w/ this BBQ shin-dig.(no pun intended)
You are such a goodhearted person Tammi. Good for you!
PATTI CAKE*
Ohhhh Patti. You may think twice about that if you had to live w/ me for a few weeks.(kidding)
My teethe only come out when people don't fill the empty ice trays.I mean....Grrrrr....what is so HARD about filling those chizzlers?(my pet peave)uuGH!
Ha ha....ABOVE:Instead of me saying "MyTEETHE ONLY COME OUT"....I really meant to say "my fangs "only protrude when I'm REALLY mad!!
Nothing against anybody that has to do the polygrip soak your teethe thing....but I haven't got that far yet.
When I do,I'll proudlt wear whatever grill I settle with.I'll just take a mold of Jessica Simpson's teethe and have them implanted in mine. But so far I got the real deal.....and I hope I got a few more years to either cum up w/ a man w/ a dental plan,or get my OWN.lol
Why am I not surpised about any of this.
You used your mind to make money through tips and you used your heart to help when you were called on.
Makes you feel good when you think of something no one had thought of before.
awww that was so sweet of you.. you ARE a sweet young lady :)
you are such a good person, i'm sure anyone else would have told her they were busy, maybe she knew that you wouldn't...
*hugs*
Fangs?! You?!
Ok, now before everyone goes and starts phreaking out on me I just want everyone to know one thing...
I Did Not Do That!
HA HAAAAAAA You Can't Blame Me! I Was Here The Whole Time!
D.J.* Yes,your fangs and vampireness accidently got me! I man....explain this:why else would I like red meat?
OK OK,I gotta draw the line at the blood sucking(but I think you even gave that up after it dawning on you that you want to keep your clean health record)...right? lol
Not expecting anything in return is true giving and it's an awesome feeling, isn't it?
I hope you're having a great week :-)
Uh uh...nooooooooononononono, that wasn't my doing Nooooooooooo...it ain't my fault.
Ok so maybe the blood drinking wasn't all that great an idea but at least all my donors did come with certified testing to show me that they were disease free. Great thing there.
Since then, I've ventured off into other realms of gathering and, well..."eating" for lack of a better term.
BTW, I changed the URL of my blog to lordgenocyde.blogspot.com and the official website is coming soon...once the new webcam comes in so I can record a video message for it's opening.
So the next morning after hauling the tables the body hurt just as much again then? I love it when towns get together like this ... it's just not done in the UK anymore, unless you live in a tiny village.
hi sweetie.. wow, about the haloscan thing..i put that on there SO long ago - over a year, i'm guessing, that i can't remember. let me look my template over and i'll give ya an email or something if i can figure it out.
hugs

Tammi, well done. We find nowadays that people are to busy to volunteer to do anything. We have Squirts school athletics tomorrow, so I will come off a night shift, get her ready for school and then go along to help out.
Always the same people that give a bit of themselves...once again well done
NZDANBOY*How cool.I just stumbled across your comment, and just HAD to say something.WHAT A GREAT DAD!
After working a night shift and THEN still getting your daughter ready for school and going to her event is just soooo awesome.Alot of guys could care less about doing that. What a great Dad.
