I'm a Fred Fan! :-}

How interesting.This guy is really cool.He's obviously helping business owners/employers to understand people that have been to prison(among other things)FRED BRITO - Ex-offender "Living in a judgmental nation." Ex-Offenders are Family too.....Gotta give him props for this.I mean...I figure....well,IF I owned my own business,I think a red flag would come up if I found out that one of my employers lied to me...or just never mentioned that he/she had been to prison.UNFORTUNATELY I think I would have a problem allowing that person to handle the money...and that's really sad on MY part...because I have been to prison,and there is no way that I would do something stupid at work...or any other job.NOT because of the fear of going back to prison...but simply b/c it's wrong.On the other hand,I get so irritated that my background check prevents me from working the job I want.So I understand exactly what he stands for.Sure they all should be equal opportunity employers...but he also acknowleges the fact that it may be hard for a business owner to decide whether to give someone 2nd chance or not.In reading his blog,he teaches both ends of the deal....and that is SO cool.
If you have a sec,take a peep at Fred's link....It covers alot of ground.Hats off to Fred for the honesty and willingness to talk about these things!! :-}

My name is Fred Brito. Thanks to people like Tammi and all of you who really do care about those of us who are released prison and enter a Judgemental Nation.

Getting a job is rough, UNLESS you lie. I hate to lie on my resume, but I had no choice if I wanted to eat and feed my family. Either that or steal and I am not doing that.

I am forming the National Ex-Offenders Legislative Lobby in California. It will begin the process of advocating to State Governments to enact laws that prohibit discrimination by employers from hiring an ex-offender. Every state needs this law. Without it, means that ex-offenders will have a hard time getting a job and becoming taxpayers and the prisons will continue to fill up because there is no other way to SURVIVE. I have A lot more to say... but here is a secret... On March 6th, I discharge my number. No longer will I be subject to the Parole Officer or the State of California. I WILL be a HUGE voice in government and I WILL raise a lot of noise that focuses on the rights of ex-offenders. We have paid our debt to society by serving time and completing parole. It is time to fight back and let our voices be heard LOUD AND CLEAR.

In 2007, I plan to run for Public Office in California, and no matter if I win or not.... I will fight for the rights of the underdog, ex-offenders included. I say enough is enough. OUR time is NOW.

To learn more... you can write to me at: federiqoe@gmail.com

Meanwhile, BE STRONG.... YOU are NOT Alone!

Take care,

You said a mouthful Fred.
Sometimes people tend to forget that we have paid our debt to society.It's a two-edged sword,huh?
When Ray and I had our own business,I was really persistent when he would turn down hiring certain people for having a certain look....or knowing that the person he may or may not hire had been to jail...I threw a fit when he didn't hire this one particular person,so he hired him.The guy and his brother robbed Ray blind eventually,taking all kinds of expensive equipment that it takes for residential or commercial building...so I bit the big one on that....but I've seen things like that done people that you would LEAST expect.
But you are SO right....depending on the crime...another words...no sex offender should work in a day care (that's obvious),but there are people that make a mistake,go do their time,and come out worse off than before they went in..as alot of society feels you can NEVER be trusted.And then they wonder why there is a revolving prison door? The person just gives up....and says "to xxxx with it"!
I'm no quitter though.I learned my lesson,and making less money now,is much better than being in prison making NO money at all.lol
You have a good "thinker"(as my Dad would say).
You have my vote!
